As Americans spending a lot of time playing folk music that is not of our 'folk', a lot of questions come up about authenticity, playing in the style, globalization and imperialism. Or is that just our band? But no amount of interest, research or snark can replace the experience of growing up in a culture and hearing or playing a style for your whole life. So rather than trying for authenticity or expertise, we present these tunes with our own stamp - messy, trying a lot of things in the moment, and hoping we don't ruin everything great about the music in its original form. Oops.
